Am still around but…

Just a quick note to readers to let you know that I have not forgotten you. I am finally back to work after LungMutiny2010 and must tend to many issues that have accumulated in my absence. I should have some new and interesting topics for you later this week.
In the meantime, feel free to note in the comment thread any interesting posts you may have read over the last few days regardless of their topic, science or not.
See you soon!

  1. Glad to hear you’re on the mend. If my experience is anything to go by, it may take you a couple months to reach complete recovery, so don’t try to push too hard. We’ll be patient so you don’t have to be a patient.

  2. don’t you feel a little, almost, giddy? being able to get out of the house, be around people other than family, and think about something other than getting enough oxygen?

  3. Many thanks to all of you. I can’t exactly say that LungMutiny2010 is over because I get exhausted so quickly. My voice is still pretty hoarse and I hope that it someday returns to normal, or normal for me.
I’m finding that I have to pace myself – if I spend a whole day at work, I’ll have bronchial spasms overnight and into the next day, essentially putting me out of commission. I’m experimenting with going in for a few hours, getting hardcopy paperwork done, then coming home and finishing things via computer.
As I’ve said before, I am amazed how much this illness has brought my physical health to its knees. It’s still embarrassing to have to call it a day after walking a total of 10-15 min. But then again, I couldn’t walk 10 min three weeks ago.
@TexasReader – you are so right – almost giddy when I’m feeling good. I love my family, of course, but it sure is great to see old colleagues. Some of them are even happy to see me return.

  4. Glad to hear you are getting better, Abel. Sounds like a very nasty bout.
Did you ever post what the particular organism stomping you was? I guess you probably did but I’ve forgotten.
And while we’re talking blogposts, can I plug one of my own about how much I dislike – REALLY REALLY dislike! – over-use of abbreviations in science? The blog is pretty new, so it needs readers, if the Nature Network location doesn’t put people off too much.
